It is clear to get Youtube trending
hhl254/21/2026, 12:19:18 AM
This project covers a very interesting topic, and from a user perspective it’s engaging to explore trends in YouTube content over time. The idea of analyzing genres and engagement works well, and one strength is the use of multiple visualizations to support different aspects of the analysis. However, some sections feel a bit overwhelming, and it’s not always clear what the main takeaway is from each chart.

I like how the visualizations in this project are clean, with clear axes, titles, and subtitles. It's a cool topic and is very insightful for people who want to get into content creation on YouTube. One thing that could be improved is the side bar ranking for the first visualizations. The numbers are confusing -- use comma separators or change it so they're not in the millions, not sure exactly what the numbers are supposed to be. Great work otherwise!

This project has a clear and relevant topic, and analyzing YouTube trends makes it interesting for a wide audience. The website design is clean and organized, with Genre Analysis and User Engagement sections that make the information easy to follow. The charts chosen, such as line graphs, bar charts, and scatter plots, work well for comparing popularity, engagement, and trends over time. I also liked the final insights explaining the difference between views, likes, and comments, which added meaningful interpretation to the data. One suggestion would be to make the visual design more distinctive and improve readability by enlarging some labels and text. Adding interactive features such as filters or hover tooltips could also make the project more engaging. Overall, this is a strong and thoughtful project with useful insights.

The project is easy to follow and the colour scheme is simple but effective with contrasting accents.
Strengths:
- different types of charts used
- consistent colour scheme
Improvements:
- maybe add micro interactions other than hover effects for user engagement?
- at first I thought that you only have 2 charts. perhaps if you make the menu sticky or add some text at the end of "genre analysis" saying "now, move on to the use engagement section" with a button?
- I think you could add more annotations and text summarizing key insights or conclusions (why this matters, what does this chart tell us)

Color theme is good because it matches youtube. i think the data is relevant given your topic and the sources are credible. Perhaps the graphs could be laid out better to make for a more appealing UI. The charts are good but could have like a key insight or description section that highlights the significance of this graph and what it means in the story. For example, the final chart shows a steady decline in how many people are engaged with youtube through the years. You could highlight this and talk about how that could be attributed to the rise of other platforms like Tik Tok and Instagram Reels etc. Overall good, but needs more talking and a story.

This project explores an interesting topic and is sectioned well to present information. As a user the website feels a little disconnected to navigate, maybe adding a call to action to explore the “user engagement” page at the end of the genre analysis might make this a bit more clear.
Strengths:
- Use contrasting colours that are related to your topic
- Tooltips make it easy for users to interact with data points
- Variety of visualizations used to present information
Improvements:
- Maybe adding some more reference to the data in your explanation of each visualization. For example, in the “Is YouTube becoming more or less interactive?”, as a user I am not sure what a strong example of an engagement rate would be, so giving some context to this would help me understand your visualization more (beyond that there is a downward trend).
- It might also be nice to add some elements that feel more customized to your topic or design your website to visually look like YouTube in some way.
- Also writing out a conclusion or adding more framing to make your overall goal for analyzing this data more clear from just looking at your website

Your project is clean and easy to navigate with the two pages being separated as genre and user engagement. I appreciate the variety of visualization types as they make the experience more approachable to read. To strengthen your website, adding a bit more explanation around each visualization would help users better understand the meaning behind the data.
Strengths
(1) The layout is simple and organized, making the website easy to follow.
(2) Visualizations are clearly presented and support the overall topic
(3) The design mimics Youtube's branding which is nice!
Areas for Improvement
(1) Adding short written sections (e.g., key insights) after each visualization would help communicate the main takeaways more clearly.
(2) Including more context in the introduction/background information about why the data matters or why users should care would strengthen the storytelling
(3) Some sections could benefit from more transitions or brief explanations to better connect ideas across the page.

I think your visualizations are very in depth and detailed but I think what's missing is just a reflect or what we learned section under each one that talks about how it relates to your topic. For example you ask a question like Is YouTube Becoming More or Less or Interactive? It would be nice to have a little paragraph that say "YouTube is becoming less interactive based on the visualization because..."
For navigation since there are only two tabs maybe it can just be combined on to one longer scroll page and use headings to separate genre analysis and user engagement so it's easier to compare between.
Overall, I loved learning about the topic and it was really informative!
aky64/21/2026, 11:58:33 PM
1. User:
I think the landing page, specifically the hero page, is a bit bland, but worse is that the hierarchy is not clear because of the white background. This makes it so the important navigation tabs fly under the radar.
The view ranking could be made clear that it is a total/ overall ranking because the metric is not stated.
The Genre analysis page is really short. The navigation could be improved if there was a "user engagement" navigation button at the bottom or if both pages were combined.
2. Student
The trending page viz X axis is unreadable. Make it in units of 1000, so you can remove all the zeroes.
For the user engagement visualizations, theres a lot of interesting data outliers and changes that go unaddressed, such as the rate of likes doubling between 2023 q2 and q4, I'd wonder what could've caused that. Or for the genre comparison viz, why is music such a massive outlier? An annotation/ marker or a findings paragraph could help explain the viz.
The "Which Genres Get People Talking (and Liking)?" is criminal because its impossible to quantify the comments (black part) without hovering. Prof mentioned in week 3 (timestamp 46min) that its because the bars arent on the same baseline. Its misleading

Overall Impressions
This is a really cool topic. Since I do a lot of video production work, looking at YouTube trends is right up my alley. You guys nailed the colour scheme; using those contrasting accents definitely gives off that classic YouTube vibe, and the variety of charts you used keeps it visually interesting.
Site Flow & Navigation
I actually didn't realize there was a second page for "User Engagement" at first. I thought it was just one page! You might want to add a big "Next Section" button at the bottom of the Genre Analysis page or make the top menu sticky so people don't miss half of your hard work.
Data Formatting Fix
On the sidebar for the first visualization, those massive numbers are a bit hard to read. If you format them with commas or just shorten them (like using "M" for millions or "B" for billions), it will make the chart way easier for the user to digest at a glance.
Chart Discoverability
The interactive elements on the "Who Owns the Trending Page?" chart are not intuitive. It wasn't clear that you could interact with the chart until I hovered over it.
The Story & A Creator's Perspective
As a few others mentioned, the charts are clean, but the why is missing. You need more takeaways. For example, in your final chart showing user engagement dropping over the years, you should write a short paragraph explaining why that's happening.
From a creator's perspective, I'd bet a lot of that downward trend is because of the rise of TikTok and YouTube Shorts. People are consuming more short-form video now, where they just passively swipe, rather than sitting down to watch a 10-minute video and leaving a comment. Adding that kind of real-world context would make your narrative way stronger and give the project a solid conclusion.

This was an interesting topic to analyze and the theme matched the topic nicely. Using a list to clearly lay out the ranking along the timeline chart was helpful to see the rankings in detail. A narrative connecting the visualizations would improve the overall experience. Having insights and explanations on why each visualization is relevant and a smoother flow from genre analysis to user engagement would improve the storytelling.
tla2074/22/2026, 4:52:38 AM
I really liked the two part analysis approach, separating general analysis and user engagement, as it helps organize the information in a logical and meaningful way. The visuals support the content well, but the site could benefit from more detailed explanations or clearly stated key findings to strengthen the graphs and help users better understand the insights being presented.
zka84/22/2026, 5:06:15 AM
Both charts are good choices and tell a clear story, but they need a bit more clarity. The line chart shows trends over time well, especially how Entertainment grows a lot after 2022, but it feels crowded with too many similar colors and is hard to follow without clearer labels or focus. The bar chart is easier to read and clearly shows that Entertainment and Gaming dominate, but it could be cleaner with simpler colors and less visual noise. Overall, both would improve by highlighting the main insight more clearly, reducing clutter, and making it easier for the viewer to quickly understand the key message.

From a user perspective, I liked the topic a lot cause I also use YouTube myself. The visuals are clean and the charts are easy to understand on their own, but the way the text and graphs are placed together sometimes felt a bit cluttered. Even when the text was small, it still competed with the visual, so it was a bit hard to know where to focus. I also thought the “User Engagement” tab wasn’t working at first because nothing seemed to change until I scrolled further down, which confused me for a bit.
From a course perspective, you used a good variety of chart types for different kinds of data, which shows solid understanding of the concepts. One thing to improve is the layout and visual hierarchy, since the graphs and text being in the same space makes it feel crowded. I think the insights would work better if they were placed below the visualizations instead of inside the same block. Just so the graph can be read first and the explanation comes after. That small separation would make the whole flow feel clearer and less overwhelming. But also another thing I would improve is the storytelling. I felt I was seeing mostly graphs and graphs. But overall great job!!

The topic is relatable and the split between genre trends and user engagement makes sense as a structure. But the section descriptions read more like marketing copy than data insights.
The likes versus comments scatter plot is a smart choice because it directly tests an assumption rather than just describing the data, which shows good analytical thinking. Splitting the project into two focused questions also keeps each page clean. I think where one improvement can be made is making the insight clearer. Good visualization should surface the insight inside the chart itself, not in the surrounding text. Writing "which categories don't just attract views, they spark genuine reactions" is description, not analysis, and it shifts the burden of interpretation entirely onto the user.
kfa424/22/2026, 6:45:04 AM
Clean design with a straightforward theme and visualizations that are simple and easy to follow. I think the points behind each visualization would be strengthened by adding interaction elements to facilitate greater user experience, rather than just data displays.
ncw84/22/2026, 7:50:22 AM
The site appears very neat and professional from the user perspective. The clear audience segmentation into “Creator, Marketer or Curious Viewer” at the beginning is an appropriate way to address the target group.
I think there needs to be more textual description to go with the graphs; merely putting a label is not sufficient; also, there needs to be more annotation of the graphs provided. The two-page presentation may make things difficult to navigate; additional navigational aids or having one long scroll page is recommended here.
Overall, Good Job!

This project does a good job at presenting all your findings and covers a wide range of data points, including views, likes, comments, and more.
One thing I really liked was the styling and division of the different types of visualizations (Genre Analysis vs. User Engagement), because it makes it easy for the user to quickly find the subject matter they are looking for.
Some suggestions I have are adding more body text to tell the user the significance of each visualization in the narrative you are constructing. Also, try highlighting significant data points that provide evidence to help build your website's narrative story. Lastly, add styling for the tooltips when users hover over the data points in the visualizations so that they match the look of the rest of your site. Great job!
