This is a well conceived project with a clear point of view and a strong narrative arc. Framing the site as an investigation rather than a dashboard was the right call for a general audience, and the chart choices are mostly well-justified, the nostalgia effect section in particular is memorable and emotionally resonant. You all also deserves credit for leaning into the counterintuitive finding: that maximum TikTok exposure actually reverses streaming gains. That's the kind of result that's easy to soften or bury, and they didn't.
The main areas holding it back I would say are execution details. The dual-axis chart in the Top Songs section is risky, the visual relationship between bars and the line shifts depending on axis scaling, something most readers won't catch, and side-by-side bars would be cleaner. There's also a tier count mismatch between the presentation and the site copy, and the strongest conclusion, that TikTok and Spotify dominance are nearly separate achievements, is buried in the outliers section instead of anchoring the verdict. These are all fixable with one solid revision pass. Overall I thought it was super well done and a really fun project to review!

I really liked this one. Framing it as an investigation instead of just a dashboard worked really well, and the flow from the scatter plot into the verdict kept me engaged. The nostalgia section was my favorite, especially using “Monkeys Spinning Monkeys” and “Love You So” to make the catalog revival idea feel real. I also liked that you didn’t soften the Viral tier dropoff since that’s the most interesting part. The main thing I’d push on is the dual axis chart in Top Songs, it feels like the weakest visual and makes comparisons that aren’t really valid, so side by side bars might be clearer. The Outliers section is actually where your argument is strongest, so it could be worth bringing more of that into the verdict, and maybe double check the tier count since the copy and visuals don’t fully match. Overall it’s a really engaging piece with a clear point of view and I like that you committed to a finding that isn’t obvious.

This is a really strong and relevant project, and from a user perspective the main question is very clear and engaging. One major strength is the clear relationship-focused analysis, which makes the visualizations feel purposeful rather than just descriptive. The charts help support the comparison well. However, some of the visuals could benefit from clearer explanations or annotations, especially when interpreting relationships between variables.

The video is really engaging and well done—it kept my attention the whole time. The idea you came up with feels unique and creative, which makes the project stand out. The datasets used in this project work well for supporting the overall story and idea. They feel relevant to the topic and help connect TikTok trends with Spotify music performance.

This is a great topic that's well executed! I really like how much data you guys show, especially for so many different aspects like Spotify streams/TikTok views and streaming/TikTok giants. I think the most interesting find from the data is that the most viral songs don't perform the best in terms of Spotify Streams. However, one area that could benefit from more data is the nostalgia effect section. It doesn't have relevant data for Spotify, but I think a connection could definitely be made (e.g. old songs that blew up on Spotify because of TikTok)

This project has a very strong and professional presentation style. The dark theme with bright green accents creates a modern music-tech atmosphere that matches the TikTok and Spotify topic very well. The storytelling structure is also excellent, guiding users from the main question to charts, outliers, and final conclusions in a clear sequence. I liked how each visualization had a clear purpose, such as scatter plots for relationships, bar charts for comparisons, and bubble charts for showing time and popularity together. The topic itself is very relevant and interesting because many people are curious about whether TikTok virality leads to Spotify success.

I think this project is interesting and easy to follow. The topic is strong, and the visualizations match the story well. I like that it shows TikTok can help songs grow, but does not always guarantee Spotify success. The outlier examples also make the project more memorable.
One small issue is that some parts feel a bit text-heavy compared to the visuals. I think adding a few more annotations or labels on the charts would make the key points even clearer.
vta374/21/2026, 4:00:32 PM
The project clearly answers its main question and builds a strong, structured narrative, so the conclusion feels justified. The overall site experience is intuitive and easy to follow.
Strengths:
1) great storytelling
2) visual encoding choices are strong as colour is used consistently with platform associations, so it’s intuitive without needing much explanation
3) annotations help to support vis. Each chart clearly states the takeaway with small interactions that are not distracting
Improvements:
some charts are both line and bar graphs but each uses a different scale which make it a bit confusing to understand. Also, visually, you might think one is higher than the other, but they’re not actually comparable.

From start to finish, this project is very highly polished, from the video to the website and each visualization.
The obvious strengths are the UI/UX design. Each hover interaction is purposeful, important data is highlighted, and the text content is concise. One example of this is the Discovering the Trends Visualization, which provides tooltips on hover and a full modal for a breakdown of the top songs in that category.
Some improvements I would suggest are using a solid colour text on the landing page for better readability, including release dates for songs all throughout the site (this changes how impactful TikTok's reception is), and if it's available, region data to show what areas of the world tend to have the most/least TikTok support for artists.
(Side note: the expand and search feature on the first visualization was not functional upon testing)
kjc214/21/2026, 7:55:22 PM
This project is very smooth to interact with and fits Spotify’s design well. Overall as a user the visualization animations on scroll are really satisfying and make the experience feel professional and intentional.
Strengths:
- Annotations on your visualizations help to enforce a really strong narrative and clearly guide the audience.
- The narrative also feels very intentional and aligns with the visuals well, like when looking at the visuals and reading your title for - the section they align very well and work in tandem.
- The use of colour is intentional and provides good contrast and draws attention to the important parts of your work, once again making the narrative super strong.
Potential Improvements:
- Maybe some more visual diversity, for example the Nostalgia Effect visualization uses Spotify green, but it might be more fitting to use a Tiktok colour (like pink?) since this is focusing on the TikTok release timeline and the view of songs on TikTok.
- Not necessarily an improvement but the section “Billions of streams. Zero TikTok posts.” does not feel believable as a user, so either adding some visual proof of this in an appendix or like linking to each specific song somewhere, would make this stronger.

This is a very polished and well done project and I can see that you have put a lot of effort into it. The video is very easy to follow and understand. I like that it is not just a presentation of the site, but a well-made analysis video with illustrations and a clear narration.
The website is also very well done from the content to the design. I like the way you frame it as if you are telling a story rather than just showing the graphs and add some analysis along the way. Your choice of chart is also very smart and clearly highlight the story being told and justify your findings. The design also makes the charts and the site overall very clear and easy to navigate around.
One thing that can be improved on is the scaling of the charts, especially the first one, where the distance between 1 to 100 is the same as 100 to 10K. The introduction section is very frustrating to read since the hero image interferes with the text. The navigation is also very hard to see as well but it gets better as you scroll down from the hero image.

The project is very well done! The visualizations provide a lot of information that aligns with and backs up your final findings.
I don't have much critique because I like it so much but my only question was where the data came from exactly and how were specific songs chosen? Especially for the last section (rule breakers), how did you select the songs to compare?

This website was super engaging and easy to follow. The layout of it is clean and intuitive, which helped to make it simple to understand the data being shown. I really liked the fact that there is music because it added to the experience, making it immersive and it kept me interested throughout the site. Super cool and interesting website!
A strength is that having music and a video helps enhance the user engagement and creates an immersive storytelling experience. Also, the content is well-structured and easy to understand, which helped show the strong visual hierarchy and effective communication of data. Finally the video at the top really hooks users in and it encourages further exploration with the website.
An improvement for this website would be to maybe make the navigation bar sticky as this could improve the usability because it would allow the users to jump between sections easily without needing to scroll back. As the point charts have a high density of data points, which can reduce readability, having them all like the first point chart could help improve that as users would be able to scroll through the data. The video at the top seems to end without looping, making the video a loop would create a smoother and more continuous experience without breaking user engagement.

The stunning visuals and the layout of the whole website are very clean and clear. My initial thoughts were as if your topic was biased to Spotify because of the usage of the “Spotify green.” There are some inconsistencies in the colours red and blue used to represent in each chart, as I understand that TikTok colours are both red and blue. Perhaps keeping it as one colour for greater consistency
Research integrated into your annotation creates a strong and strengthens the data that is being supported by your text and visuals, which back each other up hand in hand. Your visualization is displayed wonderfully and neatly set up.
Something that could be improved upon is the hero’s page, it’s a minor thing, but the movement of the video is causing accessibility issues with the title, which makes it a little distracting and harder to read.

The website is very strong and well executed with little to nitpick.
I think the Nav bar could be organized better. Currently, "Big Picture" and "The Verdict" buttons are closer to the Title and "Download Dataset" than they are to the other nav buttons, which breaks the gestalt principle of proximity. Maybe remove "the" from the buttons or make them a smaller font.
For the second viz, it could be made more clear that the bars are clickable, because the other visualizations are interactable by hover and the note that tells users to click blends into the background.
For the third viz, where does the 500M views baseline come from? Is that the minimum to be considered viral?
Overall, the viz and website were executed well. Sticking to mainly two factors per viz keeps it simple and easy to follow. The body text also helps guide users through the narrative.

The website has a strong visual design, and the interactions and animations make the experience feel immersive throughout navigation. I also really liked the insightful paragraphs and how the visual representations use color effectively to communicate information clearly. Overall, the combination of engaging visuals and thoughtful content makes the site both compelling and easy to follow.

I think you did a great job with visual consistency and encoding. The use of green for Spotify and blue for TikTok is intuitive and reduces the need for constant legend checking. Your annotations and short explanations also help make the charts accessible without overwhelming it being too overwhelming.
The scatterplot, which effectively communicates the “messy” relationship without oversimplifying it. The trend bar chart, which highlights the counterintuitive drop in the viral tier. The nostalgia effect chart, which instantly was very visually engaging for me

this project feels very relevant with today’s dominance of short form content in the social media space.
strengths:
- strong storytelling aspect
- nice visual design and visual consistency
improvements:
- the use of different scales can be confusing, and unintentionally misleading on first glance

Super well executed project! I had a good time scrolling through and getting the main takeaways, I appreciated how the text was designed to focus on the most important points.
For the graph for top songs on Spotify, I'm wondering if it is a bit misleading to have the TikTok and Spotify streams to be on two different axes with different scales. The narrative says that a line below the bar means the Spotify streams came from somewhere that's not TikTok, but in some cases that line still represents something bigger than the bar (e.g., Believer, 3B Spotify streams and 5B+ tiktok views, but the vis makes it seem like TikTok had no effect). Maybe this is something worth revisiting to have a more consistent narrative.
kfa424/22/2026, 6:57:07 AM
Very strong execution of narrative and comparative elements. Users are walked through a thorough investigation up to the conclusion, making all the data presented feel properly wrapped up. Less text in certain sections is something I’d personally consider, as it can sometimes take away from the experience and interactive elements that are also meant to tell the story at the same time.
apa974/22/2026, 7:21:48 AM
I liked it a lot! The Spotify-inspired design felt really cohesive and well thought out, and it was genuinely pleasing to look at overall. The interactions, especially the hover feedback on the data points made it feel more engaging and helped bring the visuals to life.
Some areas to improve was some of the text was a bit small or some was overlapping on the graphs, so it took a bit more effort to read, but it didn’t take away too much from the experience. Overall, the visuals and interactions worked really well together.

Good job on the step-by-step information presentation! The "Nostalgia Effect" segment is particularly interesting since it surprises the reader and turns his assumptions on their heads; it serves its purpose as good data storytelling. Some small improvements could be the primary scatter plot can be improved in terms of visualization. Currently, it is referred to as a "chaotic cloud," and it requires some form of visual coding like density or clustering to allow users to perceive patterns instead of telling them what they are.

This is such a relatable and modern topic! The way the site tracks a song's journey from a TikTok trend to a Spotify hit is very intuitive. The "scroll-telling" approach works perfectly here because it mimics the feeling of scrolling through a feed, making the data feel alive. It’s very satisfying to see the visual proof of how social media literally dictates the music charts today.

Feedback for TikTok & Spotify Story Dashboard
Opinion from the perspective of a user:
This is such a relatable and modern topic! The way the site tracks a song's journey from a TikTok trend to a Spotify hit is very intuitive. The "scroll-telling" approach works perfectly here because it mimics the feeling of scrolling through a feed, making the data feel alive. It’s very satisfying to see the visual proof of how social media literally dictates the music charts today.
Opinion as a student (Technical Evaluation):
Strengths:
-The use of scrollytelling to sync the narrative with the data points is a masterclass in engaging a non-technical audience. It prevents the user from feeling lost in the numbers.
- The project uses color and position very effectively to distinguish between different platforms (TikTok vs. Spotify).
-The dark mode design with neon-like accents perfectly fits the branding of both TikTok and Spotify.
Points for Improvement:
-while the trends are clear, adding a few more specific annotations (e.g., "This spike was caused by X challenge") would help the user understand the "why" behind certain data outliers.
-in some sections, the charts are a bit small compared to the text.
-Since the topic is TikTok, many users might try to view this on a phone.
